“We are launching an Environmental and Energy Action Agenda to prioritize neglected, urban and rural communities when energy and environmental policies are determined by our state legislature.  It is essential marginalized voices are educated and activated about green, renewable energy and the upcoming decision regarding Santee Cooper.”
- Marilyn Hemingway, president, Gullah Geechee Chamber of Commerce
  1. Green and alternative energy promotion in urban and rural areas must be our first priority.
  2. All voices must be a part of the debate - not just the lobbyist and insiders.
  3. The needs of neglected rural and low-income communities must come first in determining energy and environmental policies.
  4. Lower energy rates and a cleaner environment are the twin metrics of success that should guide policy decision makers.
  5. Full disclosure and compete transparency must be a fundamental part of all policy development and implementation.
  6. The future of Santee Cooper should be based on which alternative can best meet these priorities.

“Much too often marginalized voices are not at the table when energy and environmental decisions are made.  We’re educating our communities about policy that can determine if someone can pay their light bill, fill a prescription or buy a meal.” - Sabrina Odom, executive director of the North Columbia Business Association
